The Preferences page allows you to tell us the best ways to contact you regarding your claim and how to pay you if you become entitled to benefits.  If this is your first time submitting this information, please fill out each required field, marked with an * (asterisk).  If you have previously submitted this information, these fields will be automatically populated.  If any information has changed, simply edit the appropriate field.  When you are finished the whole page, click ‘Next’.

Why do you want my email address?

Email is a quick and effective way to receive timely notifications from NHES regarding your claim.  You will receive alerts to let you know there is new correspondence to view in your NHES correspondence box.   You may also communicate with a certifying officer about your claim via email during the fact-finding process.

What will the voice reminder be about?

Voice mail reminders are courtesy reminders regarding scheduled meetings, appeal hearings or general rights and responsibilities.  Since they are a courtesy, you still remain responsible for reading all correspondence from NHES, attending all required meetings and meeting eligibility requirements.

Why do I need to worry about tax withholdings?

Benefits paid through the Unemployment Compensation program are subject to income tax with the Internal Revenue Service.  By selecting 'Yes' to the question 'Would you like 10% of any benefit payments to which you may become entitled withheld for federal income taxes?' a portion of your benefit is paid directly to the IRS on your behalf.

What is the benefit of direct deposit?

By selecting direct deposit, any benefit payments you may be entitled to are directly deposited into your bank account. This will potentially eliminate delays in delivery, check cashing fees and the potential of another individual cashing your check.   (Please note that staff at NHES does not have access to view your full account number.)
